About Second Servings of Houston

Fighting Hunger. Ending Waste. Founded in 2014, we are Houston's only prepared food rescue organization. We pick up excess prepa ... red food from regulated food businesses, such as hotels, arenas, and cafeterias, and deliver it safely to non-profit meal providers that serve the Houston community. It is a simple concept with a simple solution. Many of the people being served are children and working adults earning minimum wage, who need assistance to make ends meet. With almost 1 in 5 people facing food insecurity in Harris County, it is essential that we redirect perfectly edible surplus food away from the landfill to the people who really need it. Our organization is made up of dedicated volunteers and interns that work on the logistics, marketing and fundraising for Second Servings. In our first 8 months, we provided nearly 40,000 meals to Impact Houston (soup kitchen near downtown) and Magnificat House (shelter community in Midtown) at a cost of less than 5¢ a meal! Show more
